It has been a while. I'm certainly behind on commenting on the work of others, and I'm even more behind in getting anything creative together on my end. I was sitting on our back porch, reading as the sun was setting and dark clouds brought the low rumble of thunder. Looking up from my book for a moment, I heard something rustling in the brush behind the woodshed, and I could see a few branches moving. Then it stopped, and I went on reading. A few moments later, I looked up and saw Sprout, the smaller of our two black cats, coming toward the porch from the brush. But he looked different; he had a brown beard. No, it wasn't a beard. As he came closer, I realized he had an entire bird nest in his mouth—a nest about the size of my cupped hand. He had one side in his mouth, and the opposite
